DIY Valentine's Jewelry

I am guest posting for iLoveToCreate today, you can get the tutorial for this pretty DIY Valentine's Gift Box over on their blog, I'm sharing the DIY for the Darling Decoupage DIY Valentine's Jewelry here!  I've been making decoupage jewelry for years now.  I'll decoupage on almost anything. It's amazing what a little paper and plastic can create when you put them together with decoupage medium.  I scored these Tim Holtz faceted acrylic charms at Michaels on clearance and used some paper doilies to make a pretty set of jewelry in a flash.  Miss Madge's Share the Love Initiative marches on!

Oh and...big HAPPY BIRTHDAY wishes to the lovely Miss Avalon Potter!  She's 15 today!  Good GRIEF?!  When did that happen?!

Here's the 411 on the DIY:

Start by painting a layer of Collage Pauge matte decoupage medium on the back of your acrylic pieces. Place them on the top layer of the doily, over the pierced areas. Brush medium on back of paper too. Use wet fingertips to gently smooth any wrinkles.

Cut off excess paper from around edge of decoupaged acrylic piece, carefully!

Attach faux gem to front of doily pieces using Aleene's Glass and Bead adhesive. Allow to dry!

Use a small paint brush to brush a thin layer of Collage Pauge sparkle around faceted edges of doily gems.

Attach jump rings and ear wires.

Love, love, love the decoupage jewelry! My fave part of the tutorial? Telling me to use WET fingers when smoothing. That's the key, isn't it? No wonder I was always muttering nasty things to myself when attempting to smooth with dry fingers...and everything would stick to me... You may have just saved my sanity!

Yes! I find a little water goes a long way with decoupage!

Cute, cute, cute! I'm thinking other decorative papers, too, rather than doilies. Fun. And completely wearable!

It is pretty precious, Margot! Great tips, and I am always up for some decoupage jewelry. Guest pinning for Craftsy this week, and this project is perfect for the board.
